Take a Look at the 5th year students' CAS Projects!

Every year, 5th and 6th year students do a series of activities and projects in order to comply with their IB subject CAS, which is one of the three essential elements necessary for getting the IB Diploma. During normal circumstances, the students would go to help out in different organizations outside the school, but, due to the ongoing pandemic, this was not possible. As an alternative, different clubs were created so that students could achieve the seven learning outcomes for this subject.

For example, the Sports Club was created with the aim to promote a healthy lifestyle and solidarity through physical activity. The students are creating a tournament in which every participant makes a donation and, at the end of the activity, the winning team must choose an organization to donate all of the funds raised. Additionally, every time someone scores a goal, the person must do an act of goodwill such as helping someone.

Another club is the Music Club, in which two different groups work together to produce educational songs for children. The technique group is learning how to play instruments to create different rhythms for the songs, while the composition group is in charge of the lyrics.

In the Knitting Club, their objective is to knit blankets that will be donated to children in need. They are achieving this by elaborating several wool squares and later sewing them all together to form large covers. They are already planning their upcoming project, which will consist of knitting sweaters for the same organization.

Moreover, the EcoArt Club has the purpose of creating a variety of products using recycled materials. There are many groups within the club and each has its own individual project. Some examples are vertical gardens, bottle recycling, and vegetable gardens, among others.

The Cooking Club will be creating recipe books to help institutions called “Cottolengos”. They will include fun meals to prepare and lots of different activities, such as writing the names of dishes or coloring ingredients. Additionally, they will film several tutorials of other recipes that are harder to prepare.

The Meditation Club focuses on the concept of mediation and so far has researched the different meditation techniques. However, the final project is not yet decided as they are still doing the investigation process.

Finally, in the Academic Club, the aim is to help students in the school in different ways. Some groups are creating various educational activities which will contribute to the learning of students, while we created the newspaper with the purpose of informing the school about global and local issues.

The goal of all of these clubs and of CAS as a whole is to enable students to explore their personal development by learning through experience. It gives students the chance to create their own projects collaborating with others, with the hopes of developing their creative thinking, working on their physical activity, and encouraging them to do voluntary exchanges.
