Lido and Rincón de Sol

Last week, some of our Y5 and Y6 students visited Escuela Lido to enjoy an afternoon of games and fun with the younger kids. This activity has been done by students of the school for many years, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it had been suspended. Fortunately, this year, the activity was reintroduced.

As a way of celebrating this encounter, the school organized a special event with Lido, where the students got a chance to meet and play with the kids for a couple of hours. Previous to the visit, our students organized games and activities to carry out there. They also prepared various snacks for the little ones to enjoy before they played.

This event was also an opportunity to learn more about an organization founded by one of Lido’s students. Liam is a 10-year-old boy who, along with his mother, began rescuing and treating stray dogs. The aim of their foundation, “Rincón de Sol,” is to rehabilitate these dogs and give them up for adoption, making sure each animal has a safe and loving home.

During this visit to Lido, Liam explained to the students the history behind his foundation and how it was all made possible. He also told his personal story, as well as the difficulties he has encountered in his life, showing what inspired him to start “Rincón de Sol”.

Some days later, Liam was invited to our school to share his story with more students. For this meeting, students from every year in the Senior School were summoned to the Green Room to hear about the beginnings of this great foundation.

Everyone who got to learn about “Rincón de Sol” was deeply moved, students and teachers alike. Therefore, our school decided to help Liam and his mother continue doing this amazing work. By organizing a non-uniform and a bake sale, the Y6 and Y5 students that visited Lido raised funds for the organization. Thanks to all of your contributions, they were able to make a significant donation.
