After two long years of lockdowns and COVID-19 restrictions, the wait is finally over. The school’s yearly musicals are back! And this year’s musical play of choice was The Wedding Singer. In case you are not familiar with this story, let’s review some important details.
The Wedding Singer (2006) is a musical based on a 1998 film of the same name. Its music was written by Matthew Sklar with lyrics by Chad Beguelin. The latter was also the co-writer of the script, along with Tim Herlihy.
The musical follows Robbie Hart, a wedding singer in New Jersey. Even though Robbie was usually the life of the party, he loses his spirits when his fiancé leaves him at the altar. Left broken-hearted, Robbie is hopeless until he meets a warm-hearted waitress called Julia. This young woman asks for his help to plan her wedding. After soon falling for her, Robbie must win her over before she gets married.
Accompanied with a fun, 80s inspired soundtrack, this musical creates a brilliant mix of romance and comedy. After entertaining audiences across the globe, it will finally hit our school’s stage!
