See You Next Year!

The school year is finally coming to an end. Students are turning in their final projects and sitting for their exams. The students in Year 6 say goodbye to our School, while the rest of us prepare for the challenges we will face next year.

After the last hectic months, where we had to balance the pandemic with our education, we are all in need of a break. And thankfully, such a break is near. As the days go by, the summer breeze is starting to run through our beloved halls and the end-of-year buzz fills our hearts.

The excitement for the summer mixes with the bittersweet nostalgia we feel as we leave an era of our lives behind. Such feelings always lead us to look back and reflect on how far we have come. The highlights of 2021 rush through our minds and we remember. We will never forget the moments with our friends, our favorite teachers, and that high score on a test we never thought we could pass.

Therefore, on behalf of the Hobson News Team, we invite you to join us in the celebration of the year we have shared by remembering our best moments together.

Let’s begin by the start. It is early March and five Year 5 students are looking for their first CAS project. Everyone is suggesting different ideas but none of them are quite right. Until someone mentions starting a school newspaper. It seems arduous and they must work hard to achieve it, but they all finally agree.

Hence, the five students come up with a plan to present to the Senior Management Team. They had to design, present and defend their idea, all of which took hours of work. After weeks of waiting for an answer, it is official: Hobson News has been approved.

And so it begins. The students must divide their tasks and pick their roles. Everything is new and confusing to them. “Can we write about this issue? What sources are appropriate? How do we make sure the articles reach our public?” Many questions fill the students' minds, but with their teamwork, they quickly manage to get Hobson News up and running.

Now, 7 months and 26 editions later, the newspaper has expanded and received lots of new members. The original 5 became the current 18, with every student offering their unique collaboration on the project.

During this time, we have had our highs and lows, but not a single moment has been wasted. We have written many articles, done hours of research, and explored our creativity in various ways. So, we believe it is important to remember some of this year's highlights.

To begin with, let's recall the first article we ever posted. “Former School Student is the First Uruguayan to Cross an Ocean” written by Florencia Lombardi and uploaded on April 14th.

We also must note our first illustrated poster, which was designed to accompany our article on the Met Gala. Member of the creative team, Agustín López, drew Mr. Hobson, who we named our newspaper after, in proper Met Gala attire to fit our theme.

Another important moment for us was our collaboration with Portuguese teacher Juan Dotta. Thanks to him, we were able to include our first article written in a language other than English.

Our most viewed article, “School History: The Beginnings of the A.J. Hobson Library”, is another moment to remember. This article is very special to our team as it tells part of The British Schools History. It also shows some of the great work Mr. Hobson did for our school, explaining why we named our project in his honor.

We have loved this time we shared with you and cannot wait until we are reunited. Next year, we promise to come up with more fascinating articles, host interesting competitions, and keep on recommending our finest selection of titles.

Until then, we must say goodbye and thank you for joining us in this experience. It has been our pleasure sharing our information with you and we hope we can continue doing so for many years.

See you next year!
