School History: A.J. Hobson Library Nowadays

Last week, we took a look at the history behind the School’s Library. We discussed its beginning, its early developments, and the story behind its name. Now, we should focus on the library we know nowadays.

The A. J. Hobson Library at the Senior School is used by students and staff as a valuable resource. It works as a learning center for anyone who is looking for information or entertainment. In this 200 m2 space, visitors can find a wide range of works to suit their needs. With a collection of over 28.000 titles, the library contains works of fiction, non-fiction, serials, and access to online databases if necessary.

Accessibility to these titles is quite easy since all resources are cataloged and records are available through the Online Library Catalogue, OPAC. This platform, Online Public Access Catalogue, provides access to materials both in the Junior and Senior Library. Additionally, it features several electronic functions which facilitate its use. For example, users can search, reserve, view loan records, and post book reviews. Connection to specific online resources or website links is also possible.

The library aims to support members of our School in their learning and teaching experiences, by offering the community access to quality information. Wi-Fi is also provided for everyone who needs it for their work. Members of the community can make use of the work areas, desks, and the silent reading room, taking advantage of the different dynamics created by the spaces.

All the loans are registered with a barcode label system, making this process simple and easy. Once a resource has been borrowed, the users will receive updates that they can check in their profiles.

As students, we are deeply thankful to call this space our own, and must thank both Laura and Carolina - our two amazing librarians - who make this possible and keep the library we so love in pristine conditions. We cannot wait to be back at school!
