The Model United Nations Club invites all Senior School students to sign up for the upcoming online conference organized by the Instituto Crandon of Montevideo! After LAMUN, an important conference of two full days, the leaders of the club decided to participate in a local conference which will take place on the 29th of May. In MUN conferences, students can develop their debating skills, English language, writing skills, social skills, among others.
With more than 16 students on board, the club started preparing this week, dividing into breakout rooms and doing research on the issues to be discussed in the forums.
The Security Council will focus on bettering the situation in Sudan and South Sudan, the General Assembly 1 (Disarmament and International Security) will concentrate on fostering the implementation of worldwide nuclear disarmament commitments, the General Assembly 3 (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural) will search for solutions to strengthen the coordination of humanitarian and disaster relief assistance of the United Nations, including special economic assistance, the General Assembly 4 (Special Political and Decolonization) will debate on the ethical responsibilities of international corporations in war-torn regions, and the Environmental Committee will discourse on ways to ensure that Less Economically Developed Countries (LEDCs) have access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy.
Students have yet to pick which committee they would like to take part in and the school is awaiting a delegation of countries. When the MUN club receives this information, delegates will start preparing their resolutions on the topic with the help of leaders.
