This month, the Awareness and Celebrations Campaign is taking a stand against a pressing matter that concerns us all: Bullying.
As part of a community, such as is the one we enjoy at school, we must ensure that all members of it feel comfortable within it, and we allow them to exploit their potential to the maximum extent. Bullying disrupts such ideals, making those who are victims of it suffer terrible consequences, such as psychological and physical distress, poor performance at academic and extracurricular activities, and loss of confidence.
But bullying, unlike what we may often think, is not just restricted between the bully and the bullied, rather a much bigger party hides in the shadows: the bystanders. By definition, bystanders are those who witness an incident (in this case bullying) but are not directly involved in it. However, we could argue, that they are just as responsible as those who actually commit the bullying because, by not saying anything, they are letting those actions go unpunished. This is why, if you see something, you must say something, so the bullied can finally feel comfortable in the community.
Here at The British Schools, we thrive to make our students feel as comfortable and safe as possible in the community we form and do not tolerate any sort of aggression towards other students in whatever way it is developed. This is why we encourage you to speak up if you see any sort of aggression, and invite you to create a poster, logo, collage, or any other visual element to represent your support for standing up to bullying, which you can share with us at awarenessandcelebrations@british.edu.uy. We also incentivize you to watch the video down below created by some of our 6YL students regarding this campaign. And remember, we want to be there for our students, so if you suffer or know anyone who suffers from bullying, don’t stay silent.
