Vintage Cookie Recipes To Try This Week!

Almond Paste Cookies


Ingredients

  • 3 ⅓ cups sifted all-purpose flour

  • 2 ¾ cups sifted cake flour

  • 1 ¼ teaspoons salt

  • 2 cans (8 ounces each) almond paste

  • 1 pound butter, softened

  • 2 cups sugar

  • 4 eggs

  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla


Steps

  1. Sift the two flours and salt together. Crumble almond paste with fingers into a bowl; add butter, mixing with hands until thoroughly blended and smooth.

  2. Beat in sugar, eggs, and vanilla with an electric mixer until the mixture is light and fluffy.

  3. Add flour, a third at a time, beating well. Use a wooden spoon if the dough is too heavy.

  4. Divide dough into four equal parts. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for at least one hour.

  5. The dough may be used for a variety of cookies. Bake in a 180-degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes.




Applesauce Cookies


Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm applesauce

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 ¾ cup sugar

  • 2 ¼ cups flour

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg

  • ¼ teaspoon cloves

  • ¾ cup raisins

  • 1 cup chopped nuts


Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees

  2. Mix baking soda, applesauce, and butter. Sift flour and spices and add nuts and raisins. Combine and drop by spoonfuls on a greased tin.

  3. Bake for 15 minutes.




Angel Cookies


Ingredients

  • 1 egg

  • 1 cup shortening

  • ½ cup white sugar

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • 2 cups flour

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon soda

  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1 cup flaked coconut

  • Sugar


Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.

  2. Mix well. Let stand for ½ hour. Shape in balls. Dip in cold water, then roll in sugar. Press with a fork. Bake for 10-15 minutes.




Banana Oatmeal Cookies


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups sifted all-purpose flour

  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ¾ teaspoon cinnamon

  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg

  • ¾ cup shortening

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 medium banana

  • ½ teaspoon lemon juice

  • 1 ½ cup rolled oats

  • ½ cup chopped walnuts


Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 180 degrees.

  2. Sift flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg together several times.

  3. Work shortening and sugar together until you have a smooth, creamy mixture. Beat in the egg thoroughly. Now stir in the mashed banana and lemon juice. Start adding flour mixture gradually, stirring until all dry ingredients are mixed in well.

  4. Last mix in rolled oats and walnuts.

  5. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets and bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until the edges turn golden.




Brown Sugar Spritz


Ingredients

  • 1 cup margarine, softened

  • ¾ cup firmly packed light brown sugar

  • 1 egg yolk

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 2 cups unsifted flour


Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.

  2. Mix the margarine and brown sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in egg yolk, vanilla extract, and salt. Blend in flour. Knead several times until the dough is soft and pliable.

  3. Press dough through cookie press onto greased baking sheets. Decorate if desired.

  4. Bake for about 8 minutes, or until lightly browned. Remove from baking sheets and cool on wire racks.




Chocolate Filled Snowballs


Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened

  • ½ cup sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 2 cups flour

  • 1 cup finely chopped walnuts

  • 1 package Hershey's Chocolate Kisses

  • Powdered Sugar


Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.

  2. Mix together butter, sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Stir in flour and nuts until well mixed.

  3. Chill dough until firm.

  4. Shape into 1 ½ inch balls around each chocolate Kiss.

  5. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 12 minutes until the cookie is set and brown.

  6. While still warm, place on the cooling rack. Sift on powdered sugar and cool on a rack.




Chocolate Halfway Cookies


Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 cup shortening

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • ½ cup firmly packed brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 3 egg yolks

  • 1 tablespoon water

  • 2 cups chocolate chips

  • 3 egg whites

  • 1 cup of brown sugar


Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.

  2. Beat 3 egg yolks together with one tablespoon of water; add to the shortening mixture.

  3. Then add dry ingredients. put the mixture into a pan. Cover with 2 cups of chocolate chips.

  4. Beat 3 egg whites stiff; add 1 firmly packed cup of brown sugar. Spread over a cookie mixture.

  5. Bake for 25 minutes. Cool and cut into squares.
