Next year, on the 18th of February, the first Uncharted film will be released over a decade after its announcement for a big screen adaptation. Over the years, the upcoming picture has lost six directors before Ruben Fleischer settled down with the project and managed to pull through with it.
The movie is based on the game series created by the developer Naughty Dog under Sony Computer Entertainment that follows Nathan Drake, fortune hunter and dedicated adventurer, as he travels around the world in search for historical treasures.
Tom Holland, popularly known as the latest Spider-Man, will be starring as Drake next to Mark Wahlberg, who will be playing the role of Victor “Sully” Sullivan, Drake’s mentor, and Sophia Ali as Chloe Frazer. Furthermore, the film will portray a younger Nathan Drake as he takes on an adventure not seen in the games, racing against an unnamed villain portrayed by Antonio Banderas for the fortune.
The first official trailer (shown below) was released last Thursday by Sony, and eagle-eyed fans of the original video games will easily notice both the similarities and differences that exist. In the teaser, there are several scenes that are portrayed in the last two installments of the franchise, such as the iconic cargo plane sequence in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception and the auction party from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
The movie is said to be a prequel to the events in the PlayStation series and shows how Drake meets and teams up with Sully for the first time, not sticking much to the authentic timeline. Some fans had mixed feelings about Holland taking on the role of the fellow treasure hunter, but after receiving a glimpse from the trailer, the internet has agreed that it looks promising.
There are a few months missing before the film is released so, meanwhile, you can get to know Nathan Drake and his adventures by playing the Uncharted games or watching them on Youtube.
