'Tis The Season: Amazon Plans to Hire 150,000 Temporary Employees During Holidays

With the holiday season approaching slowly but surely, Amazon, currently the largest online retailer, will have a lot on its plate. For this reason, the company has announced that it is planning on hiring 150,000 seasonal employees for the festivities at the end of the year.

This is an astonishing amount of workers and a 50% increase from the hiring target from the previous year when Amazon informed the public they were searching for 100,000 temporary employees.

Furthermore, the corporation has already declared the salary for these new workers. Starting at $18 an hour, Amazon has upgraded its $15 minimum wage. It is also offering an additional $3 for certain shifts, such as overnight or weekend ones, and signing bonuses of $3,000 in some locations.

The company’s provided positions involve picking, scanning, and packing items at warehouses, and loading boxes onto trucks. In addition, Amazon is aiming to hire 125,000 permanent workers before the holiday season.

Amazon is searching for new hires all over the United States, the largest numbers being 23,000 in California, 6,200 in Arizona, and 4,500 in Illinois. States like Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Tennessee, Oregon, and Pennsylvania also have incredibly high hiring rates.

Other retailer chains are employing temporary and full-time employees too, such as Walmart, Target, UPS, Macy’s, and many more.
