The houses of the future: first 3D-printed housing community in the US

For the first time in the United States, a fully 3D-printed community will be constructed in California. Rancho Mirage, a deserted city consisting mainly of resorts and golf courses, is about to take a tremendous technological leap as development group Palari announced the building of the community.

The plan is to build 15 eco-friendly homes on a five-acre parcel. Each 441.96 square meter house will include three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a swimming pool, and a deck. They also offer Darwin wellness systems, which are home intelligence software, as well as water filtration, and a special type of lighting that follows the biological rhythm.

The houses will be made from a stone-composite material stronger than concrete, which hardens when exposed to UV light. This technological component is fireproof, water-resistant, and impenetrable by termites.

3D-printing was chosen as the building technique because it is sustainable and less wasteful. The company is focused on finding environmentally friendly ways of construction, which is why they selected an alternative that eliminates unnecessary waste.

All the interior materials that cannot be printed, such as bathrooms and cabinets, are sustainably sourced. Additionally, solar power will supply the house with the energy it needs, and owners will be able to install more equipment, for example, Tesla Powerwalls.

The construction will only last some months, but the project has been in the developing stages for years. This new advancement means a huge step towards a more sustainable future. Hopefully, the 3D-printed houses will inspire other developers to work on more eco-friendly projects that lead to more waste-free housing options.
