As Halloween approaches, the Hobson Newspaper team has decided to set the mood for this festivity, and obviously, Halloween music is a must! Spooky, scary, and dark these songs are, join us for a BITE (of our Halloween recipes) and trick or treat yo’self to these jams.
Calling All the Monsters - China Anne McClain
Firstly, let's start this off by calling all the monsters, right? What is Halloween without these strange and fright-inducing creatures? This song has shown us that monsters can indeed dance, the music video shows the singer dancing with monsters, including a mummy and a werewolf. Break your bones to this pop song for a fun time! Uh— I mean, not literally break your bones… cause that won’t be as fun.
Somebody’s Watching Me - Rockwell
Kennedy Gordy, known as Rockwell, wrote this with the hope “to write a song that’ll go to the top of the charts”, and good for him, it peaked at #2 in the Billboard 100! He sang the track to long-time childhood friend Michael Jackson, who loved it and sang the chorus with him. It touches on the topic of paranoia which is THE Halloween vibe. Spook-tacular!
Thriller - Michael Jackson
How could we miss this classic? Michael Jackson will never be forgotten, even less with this horrific song, which features a zombie-like choreography and costumes in the music video. Jackson and his team’s aim was to craft an album where "every song was a killer", and we believe this one certainly deserves that title. Interesting fact: the song was written by Rod Temperton and not originally thought of as a Halloween song!
Join Us for a Bite - JT Music
If there is one song that can set the tone for Halloween, this is the one creepin’ it real. From the well-known eerie video game Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location. The talented choir genuinely makes you feel as if you were trapped inside and being cornered and watched over by animatronics. Fa-boo-lous!
This is Halloween - Danny Elfman
This fantastic and famous song was composed for Tim Burton’s 1993 film “The Nightmare Before Christmas”. The whispering voices, together with the dense instrumentation which include the cello, piano, bass and other instruments create the atmosphere of Halloween Town. There is a combination of various musical techniques such as crescendos, broken arpeggios, and staccato quavers. Bone to be a masterpiece.
Ghostbusters - Ray Parker Jr.
When one goes ghost-catching, one cannot resist playing this rock tune from the 1984 sci-fi/comedy film ‘Ghostbusters’. It’s literally eerie-sistible. The Hobson team can provide you with the Ghostbusters’ phone number if you are in trouble this Halloween! Although I don’t know if we could make it on time… Who you gonna call? Hobson Team!
