Indian railroad worker saves child from oncoming train

Shri Mayur Shelke, an Indian railway worker, saved a young child’s life from a train that was only seconds away. The incident occurred at the Vangani Station in the Mumbai region of Maharashtra, on April 17.
India’s Ministry of Railways posted a video showing a boy walking with his mother across a railway platform. Then, the mother loses the grip on the child’s hand, and he falls on the tracks as a train approaches the station. Without hesitation, the worker runs towards the child, raising him to the platform and quickly lifting himself up, moments before the train arrives. His selfless act avoided a terrible accident.
Shelke stated that he did not have time to think, but he was determined to save the child, regardless of his fear. “I saw the kid falling and the train speeding towards him. There was no chance he would have lived had I not intervened,” he said according to Mid-Day newspaper.
India’s Railways Minister, Piyush Goyal, praised the employee for his amazing work. Shelke also received an award of Rs 50,000 (approximately $667) from part of the ministry for “the act of bravery, courage, and presence of mind on duty”. The community and the world thank this hero for saving the child and preventing a tragedy.
