Female Artists Albums to Listen to This Week

“Lately I Feel Everything” - Willow

American singer Willow released her album “Lately I Feel Everything” on July 16. Although this is the artist’s fourth album, it is her first approach to pop-punk and indie rock. In the tracks, she continues discussing issues she has previously dealt with, such as mental and spiritual health, while also introducing new ideas. Her main focus this time is on the complexity of human emotions.

As she skillfully writes about anxiety, self-awareness, and relationships, the singer-songwriter opens up about her experiences. This inspires listeners to consider her ideas and relate to the deep emissions she expresses. Additionally, she raises questions regarding the position of Black female singers in the music industry, who have been historically disregarded in the pop-punk scene.

Taking inspiration from 2000’s rock artists, including My Chemical Romance and Paramore, Willow’s instrumentals are reminiscent of this musical era. These influences can be mainly recognized in the strong instrumentals, provocative lyrics, and a particular sense of humor that characterizes this type of rock.

Thanks to her independent and fierce spirit, Willow created a passionate and memorable album. “Lately I Feel Everything” is a powerful expression of emotions that is guaranteed to resonate with the audience. I recommend you give it a listen, especially if you are looking for a modern perspective on human feelings.

“If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power” - Halsey:

“If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power” is Halsey’s fourth studio album, released on August 27. Although this album is mostly based on the pop-punk genre, the artist uses this opportunity to explore different musical paths. Ranging from heavy drums and distorted electric guitars to whispered vocals and piano melodies, Halsey merges sounds to create unique pieces.

Through these distinctive songs, the singer-songwriter discusses femininity, empowerment, pregnancy, and motherhood. In this theatrical experience, Halsey includes horror themes to remind the audience that women do not always have good experiences during pregnancy. They described their work as "a concept album about the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth".

As they take a look at our patriarchal society and personal experiences, the artist tackles many important issues, both individual and collective. Therefore, I recommend that people listen to “If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power” for an opportunity to reflect. As you listen to the tracks, I suggest contemplating the lyrics and the meaning behind them. Of course, this should be done while enjoying the special sounds and melodies that accompany them.

“Planet Her” - Doja Cat:

On June 25, American rapper Doja Cat released “Planet Her”, a much-anticipated project consisting of 14 tracks. The concept behind her third album emerges from a mix of female empowerment, luxury, and desire. Through this combination, Doja creates a magical world for her listeners

In this opportunity, Doja Cat explores a wide range of genres, experimenting with the classic idea that defines pop music. Afropop, trap, reggaeton, hip-hop, and hyperpop are some of the styles she draws inspiration from.

Although the artist includes new sounds and ideas into her latest album, this does not stop her work from appearing completely authentic. The fun tunes and passionate themes give “Planet Her” the distinct Doja Cat feel.

I believe “Planet Her” is the perfect pick for those wishing to have a good time. Creating an entertaining and enjoyable experience, the artist shows off her personality and her talent in her project. If you are looking for songs full of character and charisma, Doja’s album is right for you.
