Eternals (Movie)

This is a marvel movie that explores a new generation of superheroes, ancient aliens who have been secretly living on earth. This movie takes place after Endgame, and in this time there are evil Deviants they have to fight.

One of the great things about this movie is that this concept is not a new thing brought out of the sleeve, it’s been around since the comics. Besides, they still mention the Avengers, so Marvel fans, don’t discard this immediately, it’s still the Marvel world you know and love. There is also a bunch of inclusion from different social contexts and ideologies to actually including sign language as the main communication form. Moreover, if you happen to like Greek mythology you might like this because there are a lot of references to it.

If you do decide to watch it (which you definitely should), make sure you stick around for the two post-credit scenes, they are VERY important.

Arcane (Series)

This series is set in a city divided into two: Piltover, the utopian rich side, and the underground Zaun where the oppressed poor people live. And we follow Powder and Vi, two sisters that will have to fight an evil power.

The series has it all: The soundtrack is amazing, the animation is beautiful (actually it’s really similar to the spiderman into the SpiderVerse one for you to have an idea), and the plot is just as impressive.

It’s set in an amazing and very complete world. They built it wonderfully and they went deep into it. It's also not a typical series, the plotline is very unique without following the typical good and bad characters. But most importantly, the design of the characters is amazing because it’s based on the videogames so it’s very well done.

Overall it’s a great series, you should definitely give it a try. It's available on Netflix so you can watch it as soon as you finish reading this.

One Day at a Time (Series)

This series follows Penelope, a single mom who lives with her two kids and her mother in a small apartment. Throughout the series, we see her everyday life as she tries to raise her family while struggling with being a veteran, separated, and Cuban. We see all the bad and how family can help the situation, but we also see their personal journeys and their growth.

This series is so incredible. It is very funny, but it’s also very unique because it depicts a Latin American family. This is not very typical, but it is very relatable and we love to see it. Also, it has deep storylines and deals with complicated issues in great ways like sexism, homophobia, racism, addiction, and much more.

This is great, honestly, there’s not much else to say but, just watch it and experience this masterpiece for yourself. And also it's a great show to play in the background.

We Are Not Free (Book)

In We Are Not Fee, the lives of a group of Nisei, children of Japanese-American citizens, are completely transformed after the mass incarcerations performed by the United States during World World War II.

The story follows fourteen childhood friends that grew up in Japantown, San Francisco as they create a community while conflicted and turn to each other for a family. They watch as more than 100,000 people of Japanese descent are captured and inserted into confinement camps. As the book progresses, the young Nisei find themselves in a fight against racism and the injustice that threatens to separate them.

We all know Pearl Harbor from textbooks and history lessons, but I bet you haven’t looked at the perspective of Japanese people. This part of the story tends to be ignored and this book brings it back to life by giving a voice to all these people, so it’s a very important read

Focusing on the plotline, there are different characters and you get to see each of their perspectives and they all have something different to add which makes it really interesting. Besides, they are all really different and their bonds are great, they are truly an amazing group that makes the story so worth reading. But the fact that you get to see them grow throughout the book because it is told in the course of three years makes it even better and you really get to see the impact of the camp on the characters.

Felix Ever After (Book)

This is a young adult novel that tells the story of Felix Love, a Black trans teen that struggles with identity and falling in love for the first time. He has never fallen in love before, ironic isn’t it? So he desperately wants to find love but he fears he is too much of a minority. I mean he’s black, queer, and transgender so his dating pool is pretty much the size of a peanut. But while he’s figuring all that out he has to deal with transphobia from a classmate who is disclosing his dead identity publicly. However, the plotline does not end there, because doubting his identity cannot have knocked on his door at a better time.

Needless to say, this book sounds amazing, but it actually is. First of all, we have the much-needed representation which we love to see, but it can also be very helpful for people. As I mentioned, Felix struggles with his identity, and we see him through his journey of self-discovery and self-questioning. It also shows that questioning our own identity is ok because we are humans that grow and change. Also, this book deals with the acceptance of loved ones coming out, so it can be helpful for those people as well. And of course, the romantic relationships are top tier, so you should definitely read the book.

Red Notice (Movie)

This action-comedy is set in a world of international crime and the most wanted art thief out there is being hunted down by an Interpol agent who is trying to catch him. Nevertheless, they soon join forces in order to catch another delinquent who is now the biggest concern.

This movie is highly entertaining and very catchy from the beginning. It is full of unexpected twists and it’s even fun to try and guess what will happen next. Moreover, for people into history, this movie deals a little with the Egyptian past. Despite the storyline being absolutely fantastic, the great, funny actors make the movie just that much better.

So what are you waiting for? Just go watch it. I promise you won’t regret it.
