The Nightmare Before Christmas

Jack Skellington, the beloved pumpkin king of Halloween Town, is bored of the repetitive annual celebrations. Looking for something innovative, Jack stumbles into Christmas Town, a place filled with colorful lights, bright colors, and warm feelings. He is fascinated with this new concept and decides to celebrate Christmas instead of Halloween. In order to do so, he must change up the town and take on the role of Santa Claus. However, the task is not as easy as it first seems.

This stop-motion musical will blow you away with beautifully animated scenes. The visual constructions give the film a unique charm, which perfectly transmits the distinct Halloween aura.

Accompanied by a dark soundtrack, Tim Burton introduces us to a macabre fantasy world where the unusual is to be expected. This unique take on holiday movies has managed to transcend generations and become a timeless Halloween classic.

Monster House

This story focuses on DJ, a 13-year-old boy as he observes his neighbour’s sketchy behaviour. When his parents are gone on a trip and he is left with his abusive babysitter, DJ pays close attention to the old man’s behaviour. Along with his best friend Chowder, he sees Nebbercracker destroy toys and terrorize children that trespass on his lawn. As they further investigate, they discover the neighbouring house is a monster. With Halloween approaching, the children must stop the building before it harms trick-or-treaters.

Monster House is a great example of an amusing animated Halloween movie. Although it may seem like a silly story at first, it teaches about the many sides a person can have. It gives an important lesson about perspective, while still maintaining its scary seasonal fun.

With a balanced mix of goofiness and fear, Monster House is a great pick for a spooky evening with the family. Also, the autumnal aesthetic perfectly sets the Halloween mood. If you are looking for a fun but slightly dark animated movie, this might be the right choice for you.

Hotel Transylvania

This movie follows the one and only Count Dracula. In this world, he runs a hotel for monsters where they can just be themselves without humans around, Hotel Transylvania. The movie starts when Dracula decides to make his 118-year-old daughter Mavis a birthday party. He invites all sorts of monsters like the invisible man, the mummy, and a family of werewolves, but a random human named Johnny enters the hotel that same weekend. But the problem comes when he falls in love with Mavis, and Dracula, as the overprotective father that he is, tries to prevent her from falling for him.

This movie is incredibly funny. It has all the spooky characters and they all have very distinguished personalities and unique ~physical forms~. The plot of the movie is also very fun. It is great to watch with the family because it’s so entertaining, only the kids will enjoy it. It is also great because it humanizes the monsters we’ve always known, it’s a fun twist that shows the perspective of monsters.

Coraline

The movie follows Coraline. She just moved into a new house and bored out of her mind she decides to explore the house. That’s when she finds this weird door that when you cross it, it takes you to a parallel world. I know, crazy, it’s the exact same house, but the ideal version of it. Better house, better parents, better everything- so she goes back every night. However, one day, her other mother asks her to stay forever, and she must do everything in her power to go back to her old life.

This movie has all the ~spooky vibes~, despite not being an actual Halloween movie. It has the kind of plot that a typical Halloween movie has, so I swear this movie will make you feel like it’s Halloween. It is very weird and the aesthetics are great, especially because of the animation. It is a really cool one because it’s stop motion. Not many movies are done like that anymore, so if you like art or film, enjoy. Moreover, I personally think this movie is very relatable (fantastical elements aside), I bet we all have felt a bit like Coraline before. Besides, although this movie is not particularly scary, it is spooky for kids.

Corpse’s Bride

The movie starts with Victor practicing his wedding vows in the woods. However, what seemed like a cute speech ended up being a deadly wedding because he accidentally got married to a skeleton called Emily, who brings him to the land of the dead. Now, he must get back to the living world before his fiancée marries somebody else.

This movie is a true ✨Masterpiece✨, the dedication and time that was put into making this a great movie is shown. It is art, the characters all look amazing, and the settings? beautiful, especially the underworld. The plot is really good too, it’s a very interesting concept. Another really cool thing is the music. The characters themselves are also great, they are very much opposites, but it works really well. Besides, Tim Burton <3, AMAZING director.
