63rd Grammy Awards: Here are the Winners

On Sunday 14th of March, The Recording Academy held the 63rd Grammy Awards and, due to the ongoing pandemic, they were quite different from the ceremonies organized in previous years. They were outside, no audience was allowed, and all of the nominees attending had to wear masks while the awards were being announced. During the Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony, artists revealed and accepted their rewards over video chat.

Many stars won their first Grammy on Sunday, such as Harry Styles with Best Pop Solo Performance, Megan Thee Stallion with Best New Artist, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance, Fito Paez with Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album, and Bad Bunny with Best Latin Pop or Urban Album. Blue Ivy Carter, Beyoncé’s eldest daughter, also received her first award, Best Music Video, at 9 years old for collaborating with her famous mother on the track “Brown Skinned Girl”.

It was a record-breaking night for Beyoncé, who has had 28 wins throughout her entire career, making her the woman with the most Grammys ever awarded. This time, the superstar took home the Best R&B Performance, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance and Best Music Video awards, contributing to her impressive record. Another female artist who made history was Taylor Swift with her Album of the Year award. The singer is the only woman to have obtained this award three times, settling herself among the other holders of this achievement: Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Simon.

Other notable moments of the ceremony included K-pop band BTS’ performance of their hit “Dynamite”; H.E.R.’s Song of the Year win with “I Can’t Breathe”, a song quoting the late George Floyd; Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande being the first female duo to win Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with “Rain On Me”; and Dua Lipa’s Best Pop Vocal Album for her disco-inspired record “Future Nostalgia”.
