41st Brit Awards: Here's What You Need to Know

On Wednesday, May 11th, the 2021 Brit Awards were held in The O2 Stadium in Greenwich, Greater London. The ceremony was hosted by Jack Whitehall, an English comedian, for the fourth consecutive year, and it is the first major indoor event in more than a year in the United Kingdom.
The event featured a live audience of 4000 people that had the privilege of not wearing masks but had to be tested for COVID-19 before and after the ceremony. Out of the 4000 tickets, 2500 were offered for free to essential workers, who were thanked during many of the speeches. Winners were given a pair of trophies so they could offer them to someone who deserved an act of kindness.
The night was dominated by women winning awards and a few record-breaking achievements, such as Little Mix becoming the first female group to win Best British Group, and Taylor Swift becoming the first female and youngest artist to win the Global Icon award.
Other winners include J Hus’ British Male win, Dua Lipa taking home the British Female and Mastercard Album awards, Billie Eilish and The Weeknd receiving the International Female and International Male respectively, Haim winning International Group, and Harry Styles’ British Single for his chart-topping song “Watermelon Sugar”.
Incredible performances were also a huge part of the night. These involved Coldplay with “Higher Power”, a medley of Dua Lipa’s songs from “Future Nostalgia”, Olivia Rodrigo’s smash hit “Drivers License”, and The Weeknd with “Save Your Tears”.
