Hockey World Cup!

This Saturday morning our Uruguayan hockey team will be leaving for three weeks to participate in the sub21 hockey world cup in South Africa.

Not only have these young girls been training for months in order to be ready for these intense matches but they are the first Uruguayan team of their category to participate.

As many may know, this world cup was supposed to take place last December, but due to the pandemic and a sudden rise in cases the tournament was postponed. Though disappointing, this gave the hockey team more time to train and improve their skills and teamwork in order to prove their worth and represent our dear country in the world cup.

This incredible team is called ‘Cimarroncitas’ and one of our own students is part of the team: Sol Myszka, a sixth-year student. She is to face a variety of challenges, including travelling to another continent, to facing 3 international hockey teams: Argentina, Korea, and Austria, all whilst being one of the youngest players on the team. Both Argentina and Korea are widely recognized for their hockey teams. Nevertheless, our team is more than ready to take on this challenge and to give it their all!

If you want to cheer on the team you can tune in on ESPN on STAR+ to watch the matches. We wish them the best of luck and thank them for showing the world what “la garra charrua” is all about.

Here are the dates and opponents faced in the tournament: (Uruguay is in pool C)
